More Fundraising Success

Thanks to All for their efforts

Friday, the 2nd July, Gill & Yvonne ventured up to the NW of Cyprus to the Droushia Heights Hotel, where we had been given the offer of a stall at their Annual Festival of Special Interests. The evening consisted of exhibitors (including us), a delicious buffet dinner and a multimedia presentation. We made a special outing of it and dragged our husbands, Brian & Richard, along with the lure of dinner and an overnight stay in the hotel at a special rate. Both of then said "yes" but didn’t want anything to do with our ‘cat’ stall! But amazingly as soon as we arrived and were given our pitch, both Brian and Richard were quickly and efficiently organising everything – ordering another table, arranging our publicity board & Brian demanding a ladder (and getting it) to display our cat cot quilt raffle prize on the wall. We had a very good position in the middle of the hall and at 6pm we were swamped by many ex-pats showing a great interest in the sanctuary – many of them hadn’t heard of us (we were on new territory so had a captive audience!)

We raised ?47.10 from selling calendars, cushions, etc and our reliable standby – secondhand books. Not a great amount but we had a fun evening, met a lot of new faces and made some good contacts.

This was swiftly followed by a pub quiz on Monday 5th July at the Ploughman’s in Limassol. This was kindly organised at very short notice by one of our helpers, Patsy. She produced the questions and surprise, surprise most of the questions or answers were connected with cats. We started off with ‘Pussys on the Box’ followed by ‘Mousellaneous’. There were 12 teams taking part, many of them regular Monday night quiz goers. Ray & Erica Lish ran the proceedings very professionally and Ray’s loud voice kept us all in order. Their children, Jack & Jordan and friend Sam, sold raffle tickets throughout the evening and managed to raise over ?60.

At half time Brendan, the landlord of the Ploughman’s, produced a wonderful salad buffet which was hoovered down very quickly. In keeping with a sanctuary ‘do’, two gorgeous kittens outside the pub received their fair share of grub from Steph!

The winning team after the last two rounds including one called ‘Mewsic’ was "Athanasios Albion". Yvonne then drew the raffle – well she does it so well! It was a really great night and we raised ?169 which was made up to ?170 by Karen Lewis – thank you Karen. A very good way of raising money – watch this space for the next quiz night.
